No. 1 seed Anna Kalinskaya of Russia and No. 2 seed Elise Mertens of Belgium advanced to the semifinals of the Singapore Tennis Open with their respective victories Friday.
Kalinskaya fended off Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-3, 4-6, 6-0, while Mertens was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over sixth seed Camila Osorio of Colombia.
Mertens will face No. 4 seed Xinyu Wang of China, who saved all eight break points she faced in a marathon 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory over Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann in three hours and 19 minutes.
Kalinskaya’s semifinal opponent is American Ann Li, who won a pair of tiebreakers to beat Australian Kimberly Birrell 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4).
Upper Austria Ladies Linz
Top seed Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic went the distance in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 quarterfinal win over sixth seed Anastasia Potapova of Russia in Linz, Austria.
Muchova fired nine aces with only one double fault and saved 11 of 12 break points in her victory. In the semifinals, she will face fourth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia, who rallied past Croatia’s Petra Martic 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
No. 5 seed Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine took down No. 3 seed Maria Sakkari of Greece 7-5, 6-0. And Danish eighth seed Clara Tauson moved on past Russia’s Anna Blinkova 6-4, 6-3.
