Broncos Among Super Bowl Favorites With Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson

The Denver Broncos are among the top five favorites to win Super Bowl LVII at most sportsbooks after agreeing to acquire quarterback Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday.

Shortly after news of the deal broke, the Broncos’ title odds shortened to +1200 at BetMGM, DraftKings and FanDuel and +1400 at Caesars and PointsBet.

At DraftKings, that’s behind only co-favorites Kansas City and Buffalo at +700, Green Bay at +900 and the defending champion Los Angeles Rams at +1100. The Bills are the +700 favorite at FanDuel, followed by the Chiefs (+850) and Packers (+1000), with the Broncos now even with the Rams at +1200.

Denver was being offered at +4400 at FanDuel just last week and +2200 on Tuesday morning as rumors swirled about the team’s interest in acquiring a veteran quarterback. The Broncos moved from +2500 at Caesars following the Wilson news while their AFC Championship odds shortened from +1200 to +700.

BetMGM reported Tuesday that Denver is now the sportsbook’s third-biggest liability for Super Bowl LVII behind Buffalo and Tennessee. The Broncos opened at +1600 and have been backed by 5.7 percent of the bets and 6.4 percent of the money wagered on the title.

Broncos’ Bold Move

Wilson lands in an AFC West division loaded with talented quarterbacks including Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, the Los Angeles Chargers’ Justin Hebert and Las Vegas’ Derek Carr. The AFC also includes Buffalo’s Josh Allen and Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow, among you star quarterbacks.

To compete in that arena, Denver has acquired a nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback. Wilson holds the NFL record with 113 wins through the first 10 years of his career, and his 292 touchdown passes are also the second most through the first decade of an NFL career.

Wilson provides a Super Bowl champion signal-caller to an organization that has gone through 11 different starting quarterbacks since 2016, tied with Washington for the most in the NFL.

PointsBet told Field Level Media that Denver’s odds to win the AFC West shortened from +400 to +250 with Wilson. Meanwhile, Kansas City’s odds lengthened from -175 to -115. The Broncos now have shorter odds to win the division than the Chargers (+425 from +400), while the Raiders’ odds remained +1000.

Wilson’s odds to win MVP odds next season shortened from +3100 to +1600 at PointsBet.

Seattle’s Super Bowl odds predictable moved in the other direction. After opening at +4000 at BetMGM, the Seahawks are now being offered at +6600 and have received less than 1 percent of the total bets and money wagered.
