The Tampa Bay Buccaneers opened as 6-point favorites over the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday, the day of the 2021 NFL schedule release, and the Detroit Lions are the biggest underdog in Week 1.
Tampa hosts Dallas at Raymond James Stadium on Sept. 9, a Thursday night primetime game that will include a Super Bowl banner ceremony for the Bucs. The over-under was set at 52 by FanDuel and 52.5 by William Hill.
Detroit has a new coach, quarterback and a roster with plenty to prove after Matt Patricia was fired and new general manager Brad Holmes ended the Matthew Stafford era. The Lions are starting Jared Goff, who came to Detroit in the Stafford trade with the Los Angeles Rams.
Detroit opened as 7.5-point home underdogs to the San Francisco 49ers.
The Chicago Bears are a 7-point underdog on the road at the Rams in the Sunday Night Football opener.
All three primetime games Week 1 have large spreads. The Baltimore Ravens are 6-point favorites over the Raiders in Las Vegas on “Monday Night Football.”
Tight spreads of 1 point are set for the Los Angeles Chargers at Washington Football Team (+1) and Denver Broncos at New York Giants (+1).
A Sam Darnold subplot in the Carolina Panthers (-4) and New York Jets date also brings the second-lowest over-under total of the Week 1 slate at 43, per FanDuel. Only the Broncos-Giants matchup is lower at 42.5.
The biggest total, 53 points, belongs to the Kansas City Chiefs-Cleveland Browns game at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas City is favored by 5.5 in a rematch of their AFC playoff clash.
Many projected a shootout before that Jan. 17 postseason meeting won by the Chiefs, 22-17, after quarterback Patrick Mahomes exited early with a head injury.
