chad ryland

Chad Ryland kicked a 32-yard field goal with no time remaining to give the Arizona Cardinals a 17-15 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night at Glendale, Ariz.

James Conner broke a tackle attempt by Daiyan Henley near the line of scrimmage during a 33-yard reception on the decisive drive to move the ball to the Chargers’ 22-yard line and set up the winning kick.

Conner totaled 152 yards (101 rushing, 51 receiving) to help the Cardinals (3-4) win for the second time in the past three games. Kyler Murray completed 14 of 26 passes for 145 yards, one touchdown and one interception, and also rushed for 64 yards and one touchdown for Arizona.

Cameron Dicker matched his career high of five field goals to account for all the points by the Chargers (3-3), who lost for the third time in four games. Dicker kicked a 40-yarder with 1:54 remaining to give Los Angeles the lead before the Cardinals’ winning dash.

Justin Herbert completed 27 of 39 passes for a season-high 349 yards for the Chargers. Will Dissly had 81 yards on a career-best eight catches for Los Angeles.

Chargers pass rusher Joey Bosa (hip) missed his third straight game.

Greg Dortch caught a touchdown pass for Arizona, which held a 181-59 edge in rushing yards.

Los Angeles trailed by two and was pinned back at its own 1-yard line with 10:06 remaining before going on a long drive. The 15-play, 77-yard drive lasted 8:12 before stalling with Dicker’s 40-yarder.

The Cardinals answered by driving 56 yards on seven plays to win it.

Earlier, Arizona took the lead with 14:14 left in the game when Murray scrambled to his left. He easily beat the pursuing Junior Colson to the sideline and raced 44 yards for a touchdown to give the Cardinals a 14-9 lead.

Dicker drilled a 47-yard field goal just over two minutes later to bring the Chargers within two.

Dicker opened the scoring with a career-long 59-yard field goal with 11:59 left in the first half. The boot tied the franchise record set by Michael Badgley in 2018.

The Cardinals moved ahead when Murray hit Dortch on a 5-yard scoring pass with 5:40 left in the half. Dicker nailed a 50-yarder on the final play of the half to pull the Chargers within 7-6.

Dicker connected from 28 yards out with 40 seconds left in the third quarter to give Los Angeles a 9-7 lead.
