Former NFL TE Kevin Ware indicted for murder of ex-girlfriend

Former NFL tight end Kevin Ware was indicted for the murder of his former girlfriend, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office in Houston announced on Thursday.

In addition to the murder charge in the death of Taylor Pomaski, the grand jury also charged that Ware tampered with evidence, specifically Pomaski’s corpse. Ware, 41, faces 15 years to life in prison if convicted, according to the district attorney’s office.

“Prosecutors presented the evidence to a Harris County grand jury, which determined there was sufficient evidence for criminal charges,” said Kim Ogg, the Harris County District Attorney. “We will follow the evidence wherever it leads and apply the law equally to all.”

Pomaski, 29, was last seen at a home party in the Houston suburb of Spring in April 2021. Her remains were discovered in December and formally identified as her three months ago.

“Although this investigation has been going on since Taylor’s disappearance in 2021, the court process is just beginning, and we encourage anyone who has knowledge about what happened between Kevin and Taylor to come forward,” said Lacy Johnson, the prosecutor handling the case.

Investigators determined Pomaski’s disappearance as suspicious at the time she went missing. Ware was out on bond on an unrelated charge at the time.

Ware has been in custody for the past 13 months in neighboring Montgomery County on drug and gun charges.

Ware played in 16 NFL games — 11 for Washington in 2003 and five for San Francisco in 2004. He caught four passes for 26 yards. He played college football for the Washington Huskies and had 42 catches for 463 yards and five touchdowns as a senior in 2002.
