NFL signing roundup: Cowboys add DT Solomon Thomas

solomon thomas

Defensive tackle Solomon Thomas agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday.

Thomas, 29, spent the past three seasons with the New York Jets. He had nine total sacks as a 3-4 defensive end in New York playing for defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton, a new addition to the Cowboys’ coaching staff.

The third overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, he suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Week 2 of his fourth season (2020) and joined the Jets as a free agent in 2022. He spent the 2021 season with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Thomas went to high school in Coppell, Texas, which is less than 30 minutes from the Cowboys’ training facility in Frisco. He has 18.5 career sacks over 115 games (34 starts).

Other moves from Tuesday, per multiple reports:

–The Houston Texans are adding durable offensive lineman Laken Tomlinson on a one-year, $4.25 million contract with a maximum value of $5 million.

Taken in the first round of the 2015 draft by the Detroit Lions, Tomlinson, 33, also has played for the Jets, 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.

He has missed just one game in his NFL career, that in 2017, and has 163 appearances (155 starts). In Seattle last season, Tomlinson played 100 percent of his team’s offensive snaps for the sixth consecutive season.

–The Texans also are re-signing defensive lineman Mario Edwards, a former second-round draft pick of the Raiders.

He spent last season in Houston on a one-year deal after stints with the Raiders, New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, Tennessee Titans and Seahawks. In 127 career games (45 starts), the 31-year-old has 187 tackles, 24.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

–The Kansas City Chiefs and free agent cornerback Kristian Fulton agreed to terms on a two-year, $20 million contract with $15 million guaranteed, multiple media outlets reported.

Fulton, 26, had 51 tackles and one interception in 15 games (14 starts) last season with the AFC West rival Los Angeles Chargers.

He has totaled 201 tackles and five interceptions in 57 career games (51 starts) since being selected by the Tennessee Titans in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of LSU.

–Running back Miles Sanders was released by the Carolina Panthers.

Sanders, 27, joined Carolina in 2023 on the heels of a Pro Bowl season in Philadelphia in 2022. But durability led to inconsistent availability, opening the door for Chuba Hubbard to take over the starting role.

Previously with the Philadelphia Eagles, Sanders logged a total of 184 carries for 637 yards and caught 51 catches for 302 yards, scoring four total touchdowns.

Sanders had two seasons remaining on the four-year, $25.4 million contract signed in March 2023. Releasing him saves the Panthers $5.23 million under the 2025 salary cap.

–The Commanders are signing safety Will Harris to a two-year deal worth $8 million, which carries a maximum value of $10 million.

Harris, 29, was selected by the Lions in the third round of the 2019 draft. After five seasons in Detroit, he spent last year with the Saints.

In 94 career games (53 starts), Harris has 320 tackles and three interceptions.

–Safety Richie Grant is signing a one-year deal with the 49ers.

Grant, 27, was selected by the Falcons in the second round of the 2021 draft and appeared in 67 games (33 starts). All but one of those starts came in the 2022-23 seasons, and most of his action in 2024 came on special teams.

He has 275 career tackles to go with three sacks, three interceptions, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries during his time with the Falcons.

–Punter Riley Dixon is signing a two-year, $6 million contract with the Buccaneers.

Dixon, entering his ninth season, spent the past two with the Broncos. In 2024, he averaged 46.7 yards over 77 punts.

In 148 games, the 31-year-old has averaged 45.9 yards per punt over 668 punts.
