Purdue QB Plummer likely out for rest of season

Purdue quarterback Jack Plummer likely will miss the rest of the reason because of a right ankle injury suffered Saturday, coach Jeff Brohm said after a 31-27 win over visiting Nebraska.

Plummer was injured on a 14-yard run midway through the fourth quarter and needed help getting to the sideline.

Plummer has started the past five games for injured starter Elijah Sindelar, who underwent surgery to repair a broken clavicle sustained Sept. 28 against Minnesota. At the time, Brohm didn’t rule out Sindelar for the season, but the Boilermakers (3-6, 2-4 Big Ten) are likely to have to turn to sophomore Aidan O’Connell, who led the game-winning drive on Saturday.

O’Connell drove the Boilermakers 82 yards in 12 plays, with David Bell taking a reverse 9 yards for the winning score with 1:08 to go. O’Connell completed 6 of 7 passes for 62 yards.

He has completed 15 of 22 passes for 133 yards and one score in three games this season.

Plummer is 144 of 241 for 1,603 yards, with 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions is six games this season.

It’s been a tough season with injuries for Purdue, which lost standout linebacker Markus Bailey for the season after two games, and 2018 All-American wide receiver Rondale Moore has been out since being hurt on the same play in which Sindelar was injured.

Purdue plays at Northwestern next Saturday.
