Defender Hector Jimenez is staying with Austin FC, agreeing to a guaranteed one-year deal for 2023 with a club option for 2024 on Thursday.
No financial terms were announced.
Jimenez joined Austin in its inaugural season in 2021 following seven seasons with the Columbus Crew and three with the Los Angeles Galaxy. He won three MLS Cup championships between the two teams.
“Hector’s quality, experience and leadership are noticeable both on the pitch and in the locker room,” Austin FC sporting director Claudio Reyna said in a news release. “We are delighted to keep him here in Austin.”
Jimenez, 34, has played in 225 MLS matches in the regular season and playoffs and has seven goals and 30 assists in his career.
In his two seasons in Austin, Jimenez has played in 39 matches (27 starts), tallying one goal and five assists.
