Michigan State forward Nick Ward is out indefinitely with a hairline fracture of his left hand, according to multiple reports.
He suffered the injury Sunday in the Spartans’ 62-44 win over Ohio State.
A junior, Ward has been a key contributor for 21-5 Michigan State. He is second on the team in scoring at an average of 15.1 points per game and third in rebounding (6.7).
This is the latest injury setback for the No. 11 Spartans, who previously lost guard Joshua Langford (15.0 points per game) to season-ending foot surgery.
Sophomore Xavier Tillman likely will take Ward’s place in the starting lineup. He is averaging 8.3 points and 6.9 rebounds in 26 games with one start, and is known more for his defensive skills than his offense.
Michigan State plays host to Rutgers on Wednesday and will travel to No. 6 Michigan on Sunday.
