Reports: Warriors, Kings not impacted by California order

Chase Center

The Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings will not be directly impacted by the new California stay-at-home order as the teams continue their preparations for the upcoming season.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported Friday that the Warriors can practice and play games at the new Chase Center, while the Sacramento Bee reported that the Kings also can continue preparations in their home arena.

The stay-at-home order, issued by California Gov. Gavin Newsom, will cover counties in the state whose intensive care capacity drops below 15 percent amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The San Francisco and Sacramento areas have not reached that number, but Sacramento is on pace to get there in the coming days. San Francisco, which now is home to the Warriors, is also implementing the stay-at-home order in advance of reaching the threshold.

There is no report on how the stay-at home order specifically will impact the two teams in Los Angeles County — the Lakers and Clippers — although the governor’s office has indicated that professional sports can continue, the Bee reported.

Santa Clara County, home to the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers, banned sports at all levels until Dec. 21, prompting the team to play in Glendale, Arizona, until then. The 49ers will play host to two games at State Farm Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals.

No NBA team in California team is planning to have fans in the stands when the season starts on Dec. 22.

According to the new California order, which starts Sunday at 10 p.m. PT, areas like playgrounds, salons, barbershops, movie theaters, indoor recreational facilities and bars must close until at least Jan. 4.
