Washington PG Green academically ineligible

Washington Huskies starting point guard Quade Green is academically ineligible for the winter quarter, the school announced.

He missed Thursday night’s loss at Stanford and won’t be able to return, provided he regains his eligibility, until the quarter ends on March 20.

The first round of the NCAA Tournament is scheduled to begin March 19, so he could return for a potential second game should the Huskies qualify.

The 6-foot Green can practice with the team.

A former McDonald’s All-American and five-star recruit, Green is in his first season with the Huskies after transferring from Kentucky, where he played 43 games over one-plus seasons. He decided to transfer in December 2018 after his role on the team diminished.

On the season, Green is averaging 11.6 points and 5.3 assists while shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 44.7 percent from 3-point-range.

Sophomore Elijah Hardy is expected to take over point guard duties. He had two points, three assists and three steals for the Huskies (11-5, 1-2 Pac-12) in their 61-55 loss on Thursday night.

The Huskies play Saturday at Cal.
