Wild fire Boudreau, name Evason as interim coach

The Minnesota Wild fired head coach Bruce Boudreau after three-plus seasons at the helm, the team announced Friday.

Dean Evason, who was an assistant coach for Boudreau in Washington and again with Minnesota, was named the Wild’s interim coach.

Boudreau’s firing marks the eighth NHL head coaching change this season.

“I would like to thank Bruce for his hard work and commitment to the Minnesota Wild during his tenure with the organization and wish him and his family the best in the future,” Wild general manager Bill Guerin said.

Minnesota overcame a slow start to the season and posted a 7-3-1 record over its last 11 games to reside three points out of a wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

The Wild fell to 27-23-7 after squandering a two-goal lead in Thursday’s 4-3 shootout loss to the New York Rangers.

Boudreau, who was hired in May 2016, posted a 158-110-35 record in 303 games with the Wild. The 65-year-old guided the club to a postseason berth in his first two seasons.

Boudreau sports a 567-302-115 mark as head coach of the Washington Capitals, Anaheim Ducks and Wild.

Evason is in his second season with Minnesota after being named an assistant coach on June 6, 2018. He joined the Wild after spending six seasons (2012-18) as head coach of the Milwaukee Admirals in the American Hockey League, leading the team to a record of 242-161-53 (.588).
