Inter Miami captain Gregore will miss approximately six months after undergoing Lisfranc surgery, the team announced Wednesday.
Gregore, a midfielder, underwent the foot surgery on Tuesday.
Gregore was injured during a 1-0 loss to New York City FC last Saturday at Yankee Stadium. He was taken down by NYCFC’s sliding Matias Pellegrini and was in intense pain when he exited in the 73rd minute.
“We’re heartbroken for our captain,” Miami coach Phil Neville said in a news release. “Gregore is a very important part of our family and we know he will come back from this to continue to lead us on and off the field. He has our club’s full support as we’ll do everything we can to help him get through his recovery.”
The 29-year-old Brazilian is in his third season with Miami. He has eight assists in 62 MLS matches, including one assist this season.
