Antoine Griezmann scored a pair of goals to help visiting Orlando City SC push past Atlanta United for a 3-2 victory on Wednesday night.
Ivan Angulo also scored for Orlando (9-11-4, 31 points), which extended its unbeaten streak to four straight games (3-0-1).
Atlanta (6-14-4, 22 points), which had just two shots on target, scored on two Orlando own goals. Lucas Hoyos made four saves for Atlanta, which sits only ahead of Montreal in the Eastern Conference standings.
Atlanta struck first in the seventh minute, as Alexey Miranchuk sent the ball into the box, where it was headed by Paulo Diaz and then ricocheted off Orlando’s David Brekalo and into the net.
Hoyos preserved the early lead in the 14th and 19th minutes, when the Atlanta goalkeeper saved a pair of shots by Martin Ojeda.
Orlando did even the score in the 26th minute, though, as Joran Gerbet assisted Griezmann, whose sliding left-footed shot deflected off Hoyos and through for the equalizer.
The visitors had possession for nearly 59% of the first half while outshooting Atlanta 7-6.
Each side had opportunities in the first 10 minutes of the second half. First, Atlanta’s Breel Embolo had a header blocked by Zakaria Taifi in the 53rd minute, before Taifi had his attempt blocked by Diaz two minutes later.
In the 59th minute, Angulo scored his second goal of the season to give Orlando its first lead. Robin Jansson lofted a ball downfield to a streaking Ojeda, who assisted Angulo for the go-ahead score.
Griezmann added an insurance goal in the 77th minute, as the Orlando star and Justin Ellis teamed up for a give-and-go that resulted in the visitors’ third consecutive goal.
Atlanta pulled one back in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time, as Enea Mihaj’s header deflected into the net off Tyrese Spicer.
Each time totaled 14 shot attempts in the second league meeting of the season between the rivals. Atlanta and host Orlando tied 1-1 on May 16.
