Five-star point guard Daishen Nix is backing out of his commitment to play at UCLA and instead will join the G League, he told 247Sports.
Although he already signed to play for coach Mick Cronin and the Bruins, Nix said he had been in discussions with the NBA developmental league since the fall. “Going to the NBA was always a dream for me, and playing for the G League is just one step down and it will help me develop my game for the 2021 Draft,” he told 247Sports.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the one-year deal for Nix is expected to be about $300,000.
“I’ve always known that going to the G League was an option, but learning more about it and hearing more things about it is why I chose it,” Nix said. “It was best for option for me.”
Nix becomes the third player in the Class of 2020 to decide to bypass college and go straight from high school to the G League, joining five-star players Jalen Green and Isaiah Todd. Green, a 6-foot-5 guard, is ranked No. 3 in the nation by the 247Sports composite. Todd, a power forward, is the No. 13-ranked player, and Nix is listed at No. 15. Nix is ranked as the nation’s top point guard.
Bleacher Report said Nix, who played at Las Vegas Trinity International, will play on the league’s new Southern California team with Green and Todd.
