Tiger Woods commits to defending ZOZO title

Tiger Woods announced Wednesday that he intends to defend his title at the ZOZO Championship @ Sherwood.

The tournament will be held on Oct. 22-25 at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The event likely will be Woods’ last before he defends his title at The Masters, which will be held on Nov. 9-15.

“I am excited to defend my title at the ZOZO Championship,” Woods wrote Wednesday on Twitter. “It is disappointing that we will not be able to play in Japan this year, but Sherwood Country Club will be a great backdrop for what I know will be a great championship.”

Woods, 44, secured a three-stroke win in October 2019 at the inaugural ZOZO Championship in Chiba, Japan. The victory allowed Woods to tie Sam Snead’s PGA Tour record of 82 career titles.

The PGA Tour announced late last month that the second-year event was being moved just for 2020. The change was made due to “unprecedented challenges” and “unique circumstances,” per a tour press release, apparently referring to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sherwood Country Club has hosted a number of PGA Tour-sanctioned events, including the former Greg Norman Shark Shootout, an event on the Champions Tour and the World Challenge hosted by Woods.
