Cloud9 defeated Shopify Rebellion 3-0 to open the playoffs Saturday at the League Championship Series Summer Split.
Round 1 of the playoffs continues Sunday with Sentinels facing FlyQuest.
The LCS Summer Split is an eight-team event that began July 25 and will run through the finals in October. A seven-week round-robin regular season — in which all teams played each other once in a best-of-three match — set the field for the six-team playoffs.
The top two teams in the regular season — LYON and Team Liquid — advanced to the playoff semifinals, while the third- through sixth-place teams advanced to the quarters. The bottom two teams in the standings were eliminated.
Cloud9 went 5-2 in the regular season and finished third, while Shopify Rebellion went 3-4 and earned the sixth and final playoff berth.
On Saturday, Cloud9 swept Shopify Rebellion, winning the first map on red and the next two on blue. The games averaged 35 minutes, 25 seconds, with the shortest 30:24 and the longest 40:57 in duration.
Edward “Tactical” Ra of the United States was selected MVP of the opening and closing maps, while Cloud9 teammate Lee “Loki” Sang-min of South Korea was MVP on the middle map. Ra averaged 5 kills, 1.7 deaths and 7.7 assists in three games, while Sang-min had a 5.3/2.3/6.7 K-D-A average for three games.
