Team Liquid remained unbeaten and became the first team to reach four wins on the first day of Week 4 regular-season action at the League Championship Series Summer Split on Saturday.
Liquid swept Disguised 2-0 to move atop the standings. LYON will have a chance to also improve to 4-0 on Sunday.
Shopify Rebellion beat Dignitas 2-1 in the day’s other match to improve to 3-1 and move into sole possession of third place for the time being.
The LCS Summer Split is an eight-team event that began July 25 and will run through the finals in October. The seven-week round-robin regular season — in which all teams play each other once in a best-of-three match — will set the field for the six-team playoffs.
The top two teams in the regular season will advance to the playoff semifinals, while the third- through sixth-place teams will advance to the quarters. The bottom two teams in the standings are eliminated.
The playoffs, which run Sept. 12 through Oct. 4, are best-of-five and double elimination. The top three teams will advance to the World Championship, played in New York, Los Angeles and Allen, Texas, from Oct. 15 through Nov. 14.
Brandon Joel “Josedeodo” Villegas of Argentina led Team Liquid with 20 kills and was tied for second with 20 assists while dying just twice in the convincing sweep of Disguised.
Shopify Rebellion dropped the opener of its match against Dignitas but rallied with wins in the final two rounds to come away with their second straight win. South Korea’s Ju “Bvoy” Yeong-hoon had a match-high 14 kills to lead Shopify Rebellion’s comeback.
