SEATTLE — The United States are popular favorites heading into their World Cup round of 16 knockout match against Belgium on Monday.
While sportsbooks have slightly varying odds on the match, the consensus is the United States men’s national team are favored over the No. 9 team in FIFA’s men’s world rankings.
That includes at BetMGM, where the USMNT are the +140 favorites. The book reported that 81% of all bets and 79% of all money wagered on the match winner have backed the Americans to beat Belgium (+175).
The match gained additional intrigue with FIFA ruling USMNT striker Folarin Balogun eligible to play after suspending the one-match ban for the red card he was issued against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Balogun, who leads the US with three goals in the tournament, has been the most-bet first goal scorer for Monday’s match at +450. He is also being offered at +150 to score at any time during the match.
BetMGM reported that the USMNT’s moneyline to win Monday has drawn seven times as many total bets than any other team.
The Americans have also been the most popular team in terms of total bets and money wagered at DraftKings. The book has the US moneyline at +150 compared to Belgium at +180 and a draw at +240. The US is -125 to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2002.
