World No. 1 Jin Young Ko (wrist) out until late October

World No. 1 Jin Young Ko will not participate in this week’s Portland Classic due to a nagging wrist injury.

Ko won the event in 2021 but will not have the opportunity to win back-to-back titles. Ko’s representatives announced Tuesday that she would pass on the next several tournaments to rest the wrist.

“According to her management, Jin Young is sitting out the next few weeks under medical advisement for an overworked wrist,” an LPGA statement read. “She hopes to return at the BMW Ladies Championship.”

Ko is currently undergoing medical treatments on her wrist that were recommended by her doctor, Golfweek reported. The BMW Ladies Championship is scheduled for Oct. 20-23 in her native South Korea.

The timeline means she also will miss the Ascendent LPGA event Sept. 29-Oct. 2, where she is also the reigning champion.

The same injury plagued Ko last season. Prior to last year’s CME Group Tour Championship, Ko struggled to warm up before any of her rounds due to wrist pain. She wasn’t taking full swings with clubs beyond the 52-degree wedge.

Ko, 27, missed the cut in her last two outings. She has one win this year, finishing atop the leaderboard at the HSBC Women’s World Championship.
