Brandon Sproat took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and combined with three other pitchers on a two-hitter as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the host Cincinnati Reds 2-0 on Tuesday night.

The Brewers, who have won three straight, including the first two games of the series, only managed five hits.

The Reds were two-hit for the second game in a row.

Sproat (2-4) allowed one hit over six innings, did not walk a batter and struck out 10. Jose Trevino’s single leading off the sixth foiled the no-hit bid.

It was the second time in his career that Sproat has taken a no-hitter into the sixth in Cincinnati. The first was last Sept. 7, as a member of the New York Mets in his major league debut.

Trevor Megill pitched the ninth for his 10th save.

The Brewers took a 1-0 lead on a two-out triple by Jake Bauers in the sixth. Andrew Vaughn’s sacrifice fly in the eighth made it 2-0.

Reds’ starter Nick Lodolo was hit on the pitching wrist (left) by Jackson Chourio’s line drive single — the first hit of the game — leading off the fourth. Lodolo appeared to be in pain, but he threw a few test pitches and remained in the game.

The Brewers loaded the bases with one out in the inning, but Lodolo got Bauers looking on a 3-2 pitch and induced Gary Sanchez to fly out to center.

Reliever Julian Garcia (0-1) took the loss in his major league debut at the age of 31. He replaced Lodolo to start the fifth.

The Reds announced that Lodolo sustained a left wrist contusion but X-rays were negative. He allowed two hits with a walk and six strikeouts in four innings.

Cincinnati star shortstop Elly De La Cruz returned after being out (right hamstring) since he last played on May 31.

Milwaukee released infielder Edgar Rengifo, who had been designated for assignment a week ago, before the game and recalled shortstop Cooper Pratt, who was in the lineup Tuesday, from Triple-A Nashville.
