Pete Alonso drilled a tiebreaking double in the ninth inning and the New York Mets stretched their winning streak to a season-high seven games with a 7-6 victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night at Arlington, Texas.

Francisco Alvarez had three hits, including a tying two-run double, as New York recovered from a four-run deficit. Mark Vientos homered among three hits and Brandon Nimmo also went deep as the Mets won for the 13th time in their past 17 games.

Josh Smith hit a three-run homer and Wyatt Langford added a solo shot for Texas, which has lost five straight games and 10 of its past 14. Corey Seager drove in two runs for the Rangers.

New York’s Edwin Diaz worked around a leadoff single in the ninth to post his seventh save. Reed Garrett (7-2) worked a scoreless eighth inning.

Nimmo drew a one-out walk off Kirby Yates (3-1) to start the ninth and J.D. Martinez reached when Jonah Heim was called for catcher’s interference. Alonso ripped a double to left that easily scored Nimmo from second.

Michael Lorenzen of the Rangers gave up three runs and four hits over six innings. He struck out three and walked one.

New York’s Luis Severino allowed six runs and eight hits over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out one and walked one.

Texas led 6-2 behind a five-run fifth inning that included two homers off Severino.
Ezequiel Duran and Leody Taveras opened the inning with singles. One out later, Seager singled through the left side to tie the score at 2.

Smith followed with a three-run shot to right-center, his fifth homer of the season. One out later, Langford hit a 414-foot blast to left-center, his second of the year, to give the Rangers a 6-2 advantage.

New York got a run back when Nimmo led off the sixth with a shot to right-center, his second of the series and ninth of the season.

In the seventh, Francisco Lindor reached on a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded as the Mets pulled within 6-4.

Alonso and Starling Marte hit one-out singles in the eighth. With two outs, Alvarez stroked a double into the left-center gap to tie the score.

Vientos homered to left with two outs in the second to start the scoring. It was his sixth blast of the season.
