Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Dauri Moreta underwent elbow surgery, multiple outlets reported Thursday, and he will be out of action for up to 16 months.
Moreta, 27, had a breakthrough season in 2023, going 5-2 with a 3.72 ERA in 55 relief appearances. Prior to that, Moreta had a 5.14 ERA in 39 appearances (one start) over two seasons for the Cincinnati Reds.
The best-case scenario for Moreta is a return after 12 months. It was not specified if he had full Tommy John surgery.
Moreta was moved to the 60-day injured list last week when the club signed outfielder Michael A. Taylor.
