Kaick scored a highlight-reel goal in the second half and Daniel made seven saves as FC Dallas did just enough for a 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday in a late-season Western Conference fixture in Frisco, Texas.
Kaick ripped a 14-yard volley off a corner kick in the 63rd minute to put the Toros (14-7-8, 50 points) in the lead. Dallas goalkeeper Daniel kept it that way, recording his eighth clean sheet of the season and third since being acquired from San Jose on July 9.
FC Dallas have lost just once in their last eight matches (5-2-1) and cemented their spot among the top four teams in the West with five matches remaining in the regular season.
Seattle (11-10-8, 41 points), who travelled to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex boasting four straight wins, had a nine-match unbeaten streak snapped (4-0-5). The Sounders remain in a playoff position.
The Sounders were on the attack from the start, putting five shots on goal in the first half to just one for Dallas.
The Toros produced their only first-half scoring chance in the fifth minute when Santiago Moreno tested Andy Thomas with a low-percentage shot from outside the box that was easily turned away by the Seattle goalkeeper.
Seattle’s Dejan Joveljic had a shot stopped by Daniel in the 13th minute. Jackson Ragen tested the Dallas goalie in the 19th minute before Joveljic forced another save four minutes later.
Daniel was at his best in diving to his left in the 28th minute to bat away a third scoring chance by Joveljic on a free kick that seemed to have eyes for the upper right corner of the net.
Dallas pressed the action in the opening minutes of the second half when Kaick’s shot on goal was stopped by Thomas.
Kaick’s scoring play was started by a corner kick from Moreno, with the ball batted out of the goalmouth by Thomas. But the rebound went directly to Osaze Urhoghide, who headed it to Kaick at waist height. Kaick blitzed a right-footed volley into the upper left corner to score the match’s lone goal.
