Frankie Amaya scored two goals and Daniel Edelman and Cristian Casseres Jr. also tallied to lift the host New York Red Bulls to a 4-0 victory over Atlanta United on Saturday in Harrison, N.J.
Edelman scored in the 32nd minute, Casseres tallied 13 minutes later and Amaya converted in the 78th and 90th minutes for the Red Bulls (5-6-8, 23 points), who set a season-high goal total. New York entered the match with a league-low 13 goals on the season.
Carlos Coronel made four saves to record his fifth clean sheet of the season and 27th career.
The Red Bulls improved to 9-1-4 all-time vs. Atlanta United — including 4-0-2 at home — and avenged a 1-0 loss in Atlanta on April 1.
Brad Guzan finished with one save for Atlanta United (7-5-8, 29 points), who saw their seven-match unbeaten streak come to a halt (2-0-5). The Five Stripes fell to 1-4-5 on the road.
Cameron Harper’s throw-in found Edelman, and the latter made no mistake after unleashing a shot from the right side of the box that beat Guzan to open the scoring. Edelman’s goal was his first of the season and second career.
The Red Bulls doubled the advantage after Atlanta United turned the ball over in their own end. Tom Barlow set up Casseres, who dribbled in and beat Guzan for his first goal of the season and 14th career.
Atlanta’s Machop Choi attempted to halve the deficit in the 61st minute, however his left-footed shot sailed just wide of the net. Teammate Giorgos Giakoumakis’ bid two minutes later was easily denied by Coronel, and his shot from the right side of the box in the 76th minute just missed the top right corner.
Amaya scored from the top of the box off a deflected shot in the 78th minute. He added his second goal of the match and season 12 minutes later to cap the scoring.
