Bay FC acquired forward Penelope Hocking from the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday in exchange for a $350,000 transfer fee to be paid over two years.
Hocking, 24, scored seven goals in 29 games for the Red Stars after becoming the No. 7 overall selection in the 2023 NWSL draft. According to Chicago, the trade was made an the request of Hocking to be closer to her hometown of Anaheim, Calif.
Hocking, the daughter of former MLB infielder Denny Hocking, scored 61 goals in college while playing for Southern California (2018-21) and Penn State (2022).
Bay FC will pay the Red Stars $250,000 this season and $100,000, while Chicago will receive 10 percent of any future transfer revenue.
