White Sox leave locker open for Machado

Leaving the light on and a locker open, the Chicago White Sox continue their optimistic wait for free agent Manny Machado.
A vacant locker meant for Machado — who was offered a seven-year deal by the White Sox in January — at the team’s spring training complex sits available and between two players who would be familiar faces to Machado.
His brother-in-law, newly acquired first baseman Yonder Alonso, and training partner and good friend Jon Jay, signed as an outfield addition, are positioned on either side of the open space dedicated to Machado.
Alonso said he talked to Machado on Tuesday, but they didn’t chat about baseball.
“I think that’s all going to get taken care of,” Alonso said Wednesday morning. “I know guys who haven’t signed and they’re spending right now like it’s spring training.”
Machado met with the San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees and White Sox.
Rawlings helped spur White Sox fans Tuesday, revealing Machado’s black and gray glove models for the 2019 season.
Meanwhile, the Yankees became the new betting favorite to land Machado on Wednesday.
After reports surfaced claiming the White Sox offered at least $175 million over seven years, Machado’s agent issued a harsh denial of ESPN and USA Today reports of the financials around that offer.
“The truth is that their reports on the details of the White Sox level of interest in Manny are completely wrong,” agent Dan Lozano said in a statement.
